Physicians Observations Preceed Generic Drug Recall


Cleveland Clinic's cardiologist, Dr. Harry Lever, noticed repeat occurrences patients reporting chest pain when switched off of brand name Toprol and onto generic equivalents of this beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure. Once returned to Toprol brand version of the drug, the chest pains disappear. Dr. Lever reported this to the FDA but had no proving evidence aside from his observations. One producer of peanut butter who supplies many food stores is linked to several salmonilla outbreaks and resultant recalls. FDA orders plant production to be suspended. People from 20 states have been affected by salmonilla linked to food product from this single source. Honda Worldwide Recall of Sedans, Minivans, SUVs


By Deepa Seetharaman and Bernie Woodall of Reuters. Honda Motor Co Ltd plans to recall nearly 2 1/2 million vehicles: small SUVs, cars and minivans worldwide. This includes the popular Accord sedan. Problems relate to software issues that could damage the automatic transmission. The recall includes 1.5 million vehicles in the United States, about 760,000 in China and 135,142 in Canada, the automaker said on Friday.
