Chrysler Recalls New Dodge Durangos for Faulty Airbags
By Jonathan Welsh
Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain new Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicles to fix a possible problem with their airbag systems.
In a document filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the car maker said some vehicles it built from April 11 through July 20, 2012, may not have the correct airbag occupant restraint control, or ORC module.
As a result of the improper modules, the vehicles’ supplemental side curtain air bags may not deploy as intended if the vehicle is hit from the side and to the rear of the second-row seat. Such an airbag failure can increase the risk of injuries to passengers.
Under the recall, which includes 1,449 Durangos, Chrysler dealers will replace the ORC module free of charge. The recall is expected to begin next month. Owners may contact Chrysler at 800-853-1403.
